Bambu Lab X2D
X2D, as the second-gen product of Bambu Lab's premium X Series, is designed for premium surface quality and refined, crisp details. The core idea of X2D is to minimize support harm in traditional 3D printing — removal time, surface scarring — while bringing flagship-level print quality to a broader user base, without the price barrier of the H Series. X2D features a dual-nozzle extrusion system (main + auxiliary), inherits the advanced algorithms and AI capabilities of the H Series, and is equipped with an upgraded smart thermal control system, significantly improving print quality and long-term stability. The instant switching of dual nozzles also makes multi-color printing more efficient — faster color changes, cleaner transitions, and less filament waste. In one word, X2D is packed with high tech in a more accessible way.
Combined with the MakerWorld model platform and Bambu Studio's dedicated presets, X2D delivers a complete end-to-end experience from idea to finished object.
Key features:
- same size as the X1 and P1/P2
- dual print heads
- main head (direct drive) for model materials, auxiliary head (Bowden) for support materials
- enclosed and heated build chamber
- 31 sensors.
The X2D is a second-generation printer in the X Series, equipped with a dual-nozzle extrusion system featuring mechanical switching. A key aspect of the system is the absence of an additional motor on the print head - nozzle switching is handled by a gear and ratchet mechanism, reducing head mass, inertia, and vibration at high speeds.
The left nozzle supports direct drive extrusion (motor mounted on the print head, short filament path), while the right nozzle uses Bowden extrusion (motor mounted at the rear, filament fed through a PTFE tube). This configuration enables simultaneous printing of the model and support structures using different materials.
The Dynamic Flow Calibration system simultaneously monitors the condition of the extrusion motor, hotend, nozzles, and filament, compensating for deviations in real time before each print. The PMSM motor samples torque and position 20,000 times per second, allowing detection of filament clogs before failure occurs. This feature is available for the model printhead (direct extruder) but not for the support printhead (auxiliary extruder).
The build chamber operates in two thermal modes: Cool Mode (external airflow, heat dissipation) and Heat Mode (active chamber heating up to 65°C, nozzle up to 300°C), enabling printing of both standard materials such as PLA and engineering materials such as ABS, ASA, and Nylon.
Technical specifications:
- build volume (single main nozzle): 256 × 256 × 260 mm
- build volume (dual nozzle operation): 235.5 × 256 × 256 mm
- three-stage air filtration (G3 pre-filter, HEPA H12, activated carbon)
- 31 sensors monitoring material flow, thermal environment, and safety parameters
- optional Vision Encoder with motion accuracy up to 50 µm
- noise level below 50 dB (in silent mode).
The nozzle switching mechanism has passed durability testing with over one million cycles without loss of performance.
IMPORTANT: while the X2D is capable of printing with two independent filaments, its architecture is optimized for model and support material workflows - and this is the recommended use case. Dual-material printing with two equivalent filaments is possible, but support material pairing remains the primary intended application.
